The EU is considering the introduction of credits for the elimination of emissions on the carbon market

The European Union is considering whether to introduce emission credits into its carbon market, a move that could reopen the market for carbon credits in the coming years, a European Commission official said on Wednesday.
The EU's carbon market is the bloc's main policy for reducing emissions of planet-warming greenhouse gases, which it does by requiring power stations and factories to buy a permit for every tonne of carbon dioxide they emit.
The EU has banned international carbon offsets in its emissions market from 2020 due to concerns about cheap international credits with low environmental standards. (Kate Abnett, more at reuters.com)
