The CSDDD is heading towards the goal after a long period of negotiations that took place within the framework of the European legislative process. The main elements of the final compromise text are the subject of this update. Although it will take some time for the CSDDD to actually be implemented in companies, it is still a change that requires companies to start preparing well in advance to be able to meet their obligations on time.
On March 15, the European Council adopted the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) after a turbulent procedure in Brussels. On March 19, members of the Committee for Legal Affairs of the European Parliament (JURI) also voted for the proposal. This means that the CSDDD proposal now awaits what is hopefully the last hurdle before the next one, and if all goes to the final, the vote is scheduled for 24 April 2024. As a result of a strong push, especially in terms of scope and timing, the final text directive was weakened to accommodate the objections.
