What does C02 footprint mean?

Carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), caused by a certain activity, product, process, organization or company. It is used to quantify the contribution to global warming and climate change. There are two main types of carbon footprint:

Direct CO2 footprint (range 1) :

These include direct greenhouse gas emissions caused by an organization or company. Examples include emissions from company-owned vehicles or equipment that use fossil fuels such as gasoline or natural gas.

Indirect CO2 footprint (scope 2 and scope 3) :

  • Range 2 : Includes indirect emissions caused by the purchase of electricity, heat or cooling. For example, if a company buys electricity from a power plant that burns fossil fuels, it contributes to the power plant's emissions.
  • Range 3 : This is an extended category that includes all other indirect emissions associated with the company's activities. This includes emissions from the company's supply chain, products and services, as well as employee travel and commuting
