The southeast of the Slovak Republic is covered with arable land and forests, which suffer from the combined effects of climate change and inappropriate land management. Based on past successful initiatives, the Košice Region is implementing an ambitious restoration program with the aim of reducing water runoff, counteracting drought and heat waves through various types of water-retaining structures in forests, agricultural land and cities. This case study will help to fill a gap in terms of geographical coverage of case studies (Central Europe) on climate adaptation.
