National Carbon Registry

UNDP has developed open source software that enables countries to efficiently manage national data and carbon credit trading processes.  The software, called the National Carbon Registry, was recently accredited as a Digital Public Good (DPG). As a DPG registry, it uses open source code that allows countries to replicate and adapt the information to suit their own needs and contexts. Registry modules, software and technical documentation can be reused and adapted by countries, potentially reducing production costs and implementation timelines.  “To achieve our ambitious global goals for the planet, we need to take an open and informed approach to digital technologies that support integration and collaboration between different sectors and actors. We also need to consider how we can work together to build a digital public infrastructure (DPI) that is safe, sustainable and inclusive for all,” said UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner.
