Human activities are already responsible for warming the climate by more than 1°C compared to the pre-industrial era. Warming above the level of 1.5°C will lead to significantly negative impacts on biodiversity, more frequent weather extremes, droughts and climate migration.
As part of the fight against global warming and climate change, the European Union, which accounts for 8 % of global greenhouse gas emissions, has set a binding goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. As a step towards achieving it, the EU has significantly increased its climate change ambitions by 2030, committing to reduce emissions by at least 55 % compared to 1990. We must significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades. Slovakia can be one of the leaders in Central Europe in decarbonisation. After 1989, Slovakia decarbonized quickly, but in recent years we are running out of breath. (Ján Mykhalchyk Hradický (ÚHP), Erik Hrušč (BCG)
