Climate protection in everyday life - 3. Cancel short-haul flights

Short-haul flights are the most harmful way to get from point A to point B. This is because airplanes are very inefficient at transporting people over short distances. To create the necessary energy for flight, airplanes burn a large amount of fuel, which produces a lot of greenhouse gas emissions.

On the other hand, trains are much more efficient at transporting people over short distances. A train can transport more people at once and requires less energy to move. This means that trains produce far less greenhouse gas emissions than airplanes.

So, if we are trying to reduce our impact on the climate, we should try to travel by train instead of plane if possible. Although the journey by train is longer, it is much more ecological.

Here are some other tips for green transportation:

  • Travel by public transport when possible.
  • Ride a bike or walk short distances.
  • Share a car with friends or family.
  • Travel long distances by train or bus.
  • Choose an airline that is involved in protecting the environment.
  • Offset your greenhouse gas emissions.

If everyone takes small steps, we can make a big difference.
