Extinction Rebellion protesters entered the grounds of Eindhoven Airport and blocked the space for private jets

Several hundred climate activists from Extinction Rebellion entered the area of Eindhoven airport on Saturday, where planes take off and land. Climate action group Extinction Rebellion (XR) says it has no intention of entering the runway at Eindhoven Airport. According to an XR spokesperson, the group is in an area where private jets are parked. Activists cut a hole in the fence and climbed through it. A group of climate activists was stopped by the police and the Marechaussee, an ANP reporter reported on the spot. The group was instructed by the XR organization to sit down and settle down. "The rioters are blocking the area for private jets at Eindhoven airport. The entrance to the VIP lounge is occupied and Luchtfietsers are also present at the airport. Activists do not enter the runway so as not to disrupt other flights to and from the airport," XR said. The Royal Dutch Marechaussee called the group several times to leave the site. However, the group refuses. According to an XR spokesperson, the protesters will remain in place until the airport meets their demands.
Extinction Rebellion also organized the so-called supporting demonstration, including a children's corner. It is located on the street Luchthavenweg in front of the arrivals hall. There are lots of banners and flags and singing. On Twitter, a group of climate activists wrote that they are taking action at Eindhoven airport because "just like Schiphol airport, Eindhoven airport causes air pollution, noise nuisance and health damage. Even in this case, the nature conservation permit is not in order."
