The climate act before agriculture sets the goal of reducing emissions by 10 percent by 2030 compared to 2005. The Ministry of Agriculture does not know how the Ministry of the Environment reached this goal, and indicates that limiting emissions in the sector will not be easy, as its goal is to increase livestock numbers and farmers no longer have much room to limit artificial fertilizers. Greenhouse gas captures in the soil and forest sector should increase by a quarter. According to the Department of Agriculture, this is not in accordance with European legislation, and it also criticizes the proposed sanctioning mechanism.
The Ministry of Agriculture does not agree with the reduction of emissions expected from the agricultural sector climate law.
The agricultural department also has reservations about the proposed target for carbon sequestration in soil and forests, and it also does not like the fact that the Ministry of the Environment wants to fine it if it does not fulfill these obligations.
Plenipotentiary Minister of the Environment Ján Budaj (OĽaNO nominee) on Monday (January 30) introduced the first climate law in history, which is supposed to bring Slovakia to carbon neutrality by 2050. The legislation sets targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for all sectors, while individual ministries are to be responsible for their fulfillment.
